Mary MappesMary L. Mappes, 99, Syracuse, passed away at 8:10 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Syracuse.

She was born on April 14, 1916, in Galena, Mo., to Cleo and Blanche (McMichael) Craig.

She graduated from High School in Galena, Mo., and attended William Woods College in Mo. She was married in 1938 in Harrison, Ark. to Robley W. “Bob” Evans who preceded her in 1979 and remarried in 1984 in Springfield, Mo. to Theodore R. “Ted” Mappes who preceded her in 1994. She was a homemaker and former co- owner and operator of Bob Evans Shoes in Poplar Bluff, Mo. for 18 years. She moved to Syracuse area in 1995 from Kimberling City, Mo.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Mo., and attended the United Methodist Church in North Webster, and enjoyed playing bridge.

She is survived by a daughter: Evon Foyle, Syracuse; three grandchildren: Pamela (Dan) Kenninger; Barbara (Jeff) Croy; and Allan Foyle; five great-grandchildren: Ella Kenninger; Lauren Kenninger; Samantha Croy; Zander Foyle; and Spencer Foyle; and a former son-in-law: Leonard Foyle. She was preceded in death by her parents and both husbands.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday, May 23, at United Methodist Church, North Webster. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. in the church with Pastor Bob Dailey of the church officiating.

Memorial bequests may be given to Syracuse Public Library, Syracuse, or the Syracuse Food Pantry.
