Preschoolers will learn about “Everyday Heroes” during the six-week summer session of family story time that will run with two time periods 10:30 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays, June 9, through Tuesday, July 14. Registration starts Tuesday, May 26. Although geared to preschoolers ages 3-5, their siblings are also welcome to sign up and participate as well.
Through stories, songs, and crafts, the children will learn about the everyday heroes, such as police officers, fire fighters, health care providers, teachers, and others, who serve our community. You can sign your children up at the youth services desk, call (574) 834-7122 ext. 202, or e-mail [email protected].
Registration for the youth summer reading program starts Monday, June 1, and runs through Saturday, July 25, with fun, family activities every week. Kids, from infants through fifth grade, can sign up for the “Every Hero Has a Story” Reading Club while youth in grades six through high school can participate in the “Unmasked” Reading Club. As they learn that heroes read, they can earn prizes for every five hours of reading they complete, plus get the chance to participate in a grand prize drawing at the grand finale picnic on July 29. Starting Monday, June 1, you can stop by the youth services desk to sign your children up for Summer Reading and get a schedule of summer events.
While heroes read, the adults will flex their culinary powers at Revolving Recipe Round-Up at 5:30 p.m.Tuesday, May 26. Layered dishes will be the focus, so bring your favorite layered dish to share along with the recipe as we champion the enjoyment of good food. Table service and free coffee and bottled water will be provided.
The North Webster Hiking Club will experience the power of nature when they leave at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, May 30, for Chain-O-Lakes State Park located near Albion. Open to adults of all ages, the Hiking Club will meet in the Library parking lot and travel by carpool to Chain-O-Lakes. There will be a variety of trails to choose from, ranging from easy to rugged, through forest park lands and along lake shores. Participants in each car are asked to contribute to gas expense and the $5 per car park entrance fee. Bring along a sack lunch for a picnic before we return to the library by early afternoon.
Have you browsed our book shelves lately? We are continually updating our collection with new arrivals each week. Stop by and check out some good reads for the Memorial Day weekend. The library will be closed on Monday, May 25 for Memorial Day.
