Wawasee SportsELKHART – It rained and poured outside, so Elkhart Memorial and Wawasee took their tennis match inside. Using the Eastlake facility in Elkhart, Memorial rolled to a 5-0 varsity only win Friday evening.

Needing to get the matches in before the Northern Lakes Conference tournament starts next week and already having been postponed from rain Tuesday, Memorial made quick work on the climate-controlled hardcourts.

Memorial didn’t have it’s No. 1 singles superstar, Krystal Grubb, but had Taylor Freedline fill in nicely in a love and love result against Jada Antonides. Mady Robinson put away Nealy Thanasrivanitchai 6-3, 6-3 at two singles and Abby Weaver controlled Chelsea Carolus 6-0, 6-1 at three singles.

Memorial’s doubles were just as potent, with the power duo of Taelor Grose and Corinn Whitaker in fine form in a one and love win against Charity Parker and Ashley Larson. At two, Layla Joso and Hannah Hakim took care of Jazlyn Gehlhausen and Kabrea Rostochak three and one.

There were no JV matches played Friday.

Wawasee falls to 2-9 overall and 0-6 in the NLC with a match against Plymouth on Monday left before the conference tournament. Memorial moves to 9-3 overall and 4-2 in the NLC with a big matchup at Northridge Monday.
