William ‘Bill’ Donat

William Bill DonatWilliam “Bill” Donat, 64, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully with his family by his at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 3, at Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw. Bill had been ill for the past two years and was most recently staying with his son in Goshen. He was born in Goshen to Eugene and Gwendolyn (Cripe) Donat. They preceded him in death.

Bill started his career with B and O Chessie System Railroad in 1974. He retired from the railroad (now CXS Transportation) in 2011. During his retirement he enjoyed working part time for Nautic Global in Syracuse.

Bill was a social person, always known for his sense of humor. He enjoyed oil painting, playing cards and karaoke with friends. He spent many fun evenings at Four Winds Casino.

Survivors include a daughter: Carrie L. Donat, New Paris; son: Brian W. (Paula) Donat, Goshen; sister: Nancy (Bruce) Yoder, Goshen; brother: Timothy (Gloria) Donat, Watertown, South Dakota; and five grandchildren.

Also preceding him in death is a brother: Randy Donat; and a sister: Penny Bollinger.

In keeping with his wishes, Bill’s remains are to be cremated. There will be no public service or visitation. A closed family celebration of his life will be held at a future date.
