Triton Sports Wrap – May 2

Triton SportsThe Triton girls tennis team notched a third-place finish Saturday in the Concord Invitational.

Host Concord claimed the team title with 56 points. Mishawaka Marian was second with 42 with the Trojans third with 39. LaVille was fourth with 22, followed by Jimtown (20), Elkhart Central (18), Lakeland (14) and West Noble (4).

Leading the way for Triton was its No. 1 doubles duo of Kylie Mason and Kolbie Mason. The duo earned the individual championship by going 3-0 on the day. The pair of Masons beat LaVille 1-6, 6-4, 10-8 for the title.

The No. 2 doubles team of Emma Ross and  Hannah Wanemacher placed second for the Trojans. The duo beat LaVille and Jimtown before losing to Concord.

Kaelyn Mason earned a third-place finish at No. 1 singles with a 2-1 mark.

Shayla May placed third at No. 2 singles, also going 2-1.

Megan McFarland was seventh at No. 3 singles with an 0-2 record in the tourney.

Triton hosts Bethany Christian on Monday.

Softball Team Notches Wins

The Triton softball team posted a pair of wins in action in Nappanee Saturday.

The Trojans defeated Elkhart Christian Academy 12-5. Megan Berger had three hits and Kayla Kreft and Hannah Woodard two each. Courtney Jennings led the winners with two RBI.

Triton then beat host NorthWood by a 7-5 final. Hannah Jennings drove in three runs and Lexee Lemler two for the winners. Nicole Sechrist had two hits and Brycelyn Garbison notched the pitching win.

Triton also won an 11-0 final at Culver Friday night. Pitchers Garrison and Courtney Jennings combined to throw a one-hitter  in the Northern State Conference win. Tatum Hargrave had three hits and Halie Zimmerman two RBI in the win.

Triton hosts Manchester on Monday.
