National Children’s Book Week
National Children’s Book Week will be commemorated by the Nappanee Public Library with fun and prizes for the whole family. Activties, stories and crafts inspired by favorite titles will be held each evening, from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, May 4, through Thursday, May 7, and on Saturday, May 9.
Celebrate Star Wars Day on Monday, May 4. May the fourth be with you with a workshop on the Japanese art of paper folding, origami. Learn how to fold an origami Yoda and other objects with special guest presenters, Donny and Teruko Aleo and friends.
Grow your green thumb skills with a grass hair planter craft on Tuesday, May 5, and discover non-fiction titles in the library collection that explore the wonders of gardening.
Learn all about what the library has to offer and discover fun facts in an exciting scavenger hunt throughout the building during “Mystery on the Move” on Wednesday, May 6.
Special guest meterologist, Cindy Clawson, of WNDU, will share fascinating facts about weather on Thursday, May 7. Kids can also make a handy rain gauge.
The “Please Do Not Touch” signs have been lifted for a new program at Nappanee Center on Saturday, May 9, located at 302 W. Market St., Nappanee. Kids aged 7 to 14 will get the chance to handle items in the museum collection that are not normally accessible and learn how to reserve documents, photographs and artifacts. Children under 6 must be accompanied by an adult.
Teen Tuesdays
Kids in sixth grade through high school are invited to plant and decorate their own living Chia pet type planter at the next Teen Tuesday program at the library. Meet in the Cube from 4 p.m. until 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 5.
Kids Crafts
Make an eco friendly potted flower craft during the next crafts for kids program from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, May 9, at Leadership Park, Nappanee. Normally held at the library on the second Saturday of each month, this months’ program has been moved to the parking lot on the northeast corner of Market St., and Adams St.
Mother’s Day
The library will be closed Sunday, May 10, in observance of Mother’s Day. Regular hours will resume from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Monday, May 11.
Pinterest Night
Make a glittering glass candle holder at the next Pinterest night program. Crafters will meet in the Cube from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 13. All materials will be provided to make a set of two large votives from CD’s and marbles. Cost is $5 per set. All ages are welcome, but children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Pinterest night is designed as a collaborative, learn as you make program where participants share ideas and tips to complete popular projects found on Pinterest, the virtual bulletin board and internet hub for bookmarking lifestyle links and images.
