Kosciusko County officials are currently investigating the death of a 17-year-old near Burket.

Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Deputies and emergency personnel responded today at 5:36 p.m. to the 8200 block of west CR 600S, Claypool, in regards to a machinery accident. 

According to a press release from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, officer’s arrived and located the victim, Kurt M. Miller, 17, underneath a lawnmower. Kosciusko County Michael Wilson was summoned to the scene and pronounced Miller deceased.  Wilson stated that the formal determination of death will be made later after a scheduled autopsy tomorrow at the Northeast Indiana Forensic Center, Fort Wayne. 

The initial investigation determined that Miller’s clothing had been pulled into the mower pulleys while working on the machinery.

The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department and Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office were assisted at the scene by the Burket Fire Department, Mentone EMS and the Claypool Police Department.
