WINONA LAKE – Sharpshooting guard Josh Ruggles of Wheaton Warrenville South High School (Ill.) has committed to play at Grace College next year.
Ruggles, a 6-foot-2 guard, has already made a name for himself on the national scene with his 3-point shooting prowess. He is the current world record holder for most 3-pointers made (135) in a five-minute span (WATCH THE VIDEO HERE). Additionally he took his shooting abilities overseas and won two 3-point shooting contests against professionals in Spain, including former NBA player Andres Nocioni (WATCH IT HERE).
“I believe that Grace College is the perfect fit for me. When I stepped onto campus the first time, I immediately felt like I was at home,” Ruggles said. “The coaches are people that I want to play for, and the players are people that I want to play alongside. I am very excited for the opportunity to grow in my faith, my knowledge and my athletic ability.”
He was named to the IBCA All-State team as a senior, averaging 19 points and four assists per game at Wheaton Warrenville South. The Chicago Tribune tabbed him as the Local Player of the Month.
Ruggles scored 1,000 points in his high school career. He attended Wheaton Academy for his first three years of high school before transferring to Wheaton Warrenville South. CBS Sports featured Ruggles in an article written by Gregg Doyel, now the columnist at the IndyStar.
“Josh [Ruggles] works at his game as conscientiously and as hard as any player that I’ve coached. He spends countless hours working on his game,” said Grace head coach Jim Kessler. “He’s a terrific shooter and can handle the ball. He’s also an excellent student. It’s a great fit for us, and we’re very fortunate and glad to have him play for us.”
Apart from the basketball court, Ruggles stood out in the classroom as well. He was on the school high honor roll all four years, was Academic All-Conference, selected to the Athletic Leadership Council and won several leadership awards.
Ruggles is the son of David and Holly Ruggles. He lives in Wheaton, Ill.
