William ‘Bill’ Meade Jr.

William Henry “Bill” Meade Jr., 67, of rural South Whitley, died at 2 a.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at his home.

He was born Sep. 21, 1947 in Kermit, W. Va., a son of William Henry and Ethel (Lackey) Meade Sr. His formative years were spent in Marrow Bone Creek and Sarah Ann. He completed his education in West Virginia.

On May 4, 1968 he married Norma Jean Owens. They made their home in South Whitley until July 1990 when they moved to their present home northeast of South Whitley.

On Dec. 2, 1969 he enlisted in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged March 27, 1970.

A foundry worker, he was employed at Dalton Foundry and North Manchester Foundry.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Norma; two children: William Henry (Kristin) Meade III, South Whitley; and Jason Louis Meade, Kendallville; five grandchildren: Sara Meade; Audrey Meade; Lyla Meade; Cadence Witker; and Jacob Britt; 13 brothers: Clyde Meade,  Angola; Roy Charles, Haysi, Va.; Nevada Mullins, Haysi, Va.; Charles William Mullins, Haysi, Va.; Mark Anthony Mullins, Haysi, Va.; Stevie Mullins, Bristol, Va.; Ricky Mullins, Grundy, Va; Warren Meade, Columbus, Ohio; Ronnie Meade, Columbus, Ohio; Evell Meade, West Virginia; Johnnie Meade, Virginia; Dallas Meade, North Carolina; and Dennis Meade, West Virginia; and eight sisters: Patricia Arrington, Kingport, Tenn.; Deloras Moore, Clintwood, Va.; Betty Hay, Clintwood, Va.; Teresa Gilbert, Haysi, Va.; Sharon Stanley, Clinchco, Va.; Bonnie Muncy, Ohio; Betty Marcum, West Virginia; and Ruthann Romans, West Virginia.

His parents and a sister, Orpha Hess, preceded him in death.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 11, at Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley with military honors presented. The visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, April 10, at the funeral home.
