Agatha M. Becher, 95, of Elkhart, died peacefully March 18, 2015, at the Hubbard Hill Retirement Community in Elkhart, where she had lived since 2008.
She was born in Wyatt, May 28, 1919, the daughter of the late Philip W. Anthony and Annetta M. (Roeder) Anthony. On June 30, 1940, she married Richard P. Becher in Woodland, who preceded her in death in 1981.
Also preceding her were a son: Lynn D. Becher in 1978; as well as her sister: Evelyn in 1921.
She is survived by her son: Paul (Heidi) Becher, Bristol; her daughter-in-law: Patsy Becher Ballard, Punta Gorda, Fla.; her beloved granddaughter: Teresa A. Down (Michael), New York City; her great-grandson: Paul Becher Down; her sister-in-law: Lura Limerick, South Bend; her cousin: Doris Rassi, South Bend; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Agatha graduated as salutatorian from Madison Twp. High School in 1937, and lived in Wyatt all her life until 2000, when she moved to a retirement community in Bremen, and subsequently to Hubbard Hill. She was a homemaker and partner with her husband in a family business. Her ancestors were early settlers of Madison Township and had worshipped at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church since the mid-1800s where Agatha had been a life-long member. She was a talented seamstress and enthusiastic participant in the church’s sewing circle where many beautiful quilts were created.
Family and friends are invited to a funeral service which will be held in the Hubbard Hill Chapel, 28070 CR 24W, Elkhart. On Friday, April 3, with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. and the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Chaplain Dave Severance will officiate. Burial will be private and will take place in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Woodland. Mishler Funeral Home is entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
