The recently released 2014 Forbes billionaires list, an annual ranking of billionaires from around the world, includes five Hoosiers.
The top spot in Indiana is claimed by Carl Cook, of the Bloomington-based Cook Medical Group family, at 216th overall with a net worth of $6.5 billion. He became the CEO of the company in 2011 after the passing of his father and company co-founder, Bill Cook.
Gayle Cook, co-founder of Cook Medical and Carl Cook’s mother, ranked 240th with an estimated net worth of $5.8 billion. The family has been transitioning its wealth to Carl since Bill’s passing.
Chairman Emeritus of Indianapolis-based Simon Property Group Herb Simon is now ranked 628th in the world, up from 868th last year. His net worth of $2.9 billion increased from $2.05 billion last year.
Dean White, owner of White Lodging Services Corp. of Merrillville, placed at 737th in the world with $2.5 billion, up from $2 billion in 2012.
Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay is ranked 1105th with a personal net worth of $1.8 billion, an increase from $1.6 billion the previous year.
