WINONA LAKE – The season could not have ended any better for the Lakeland Christian Academy boys basketball team. The Cougars picked up their first win of the year in a 48-29 season finale victory over Portage Christian.
LCA saw scoring efforts out of five different players in the game with Connor Blum leading all scorers with 19 points, including a 7-8 performance at the charity stripe. Jon Harmon was the game’s second-highest leading scorer with 17 points for the Cougars. Both Harmon and Blum hit a pair of threes in the contest.
Josh McDaniel added an eight-point effort for LCA while Noah Twombly and Kyle Shuler had two points apiece.
LCA held Portage Christian’s top scorers, Seth Nykamp, to just five points. Zach Szakacs led the visiting team with 12 points.
The victory marked the first-career win for LCA head coach Christopher Hohm.
LCA (1-21) will play Hamilton Tuesday night in the opening round of the Hamilton Sectional. The Cougars fell 69-33 to Hamilton in December.
