LaPorte police officers responded to a report of a man leaving Christo’s Restaurant at 1462 SR 2 West without paying Sunday afternoon, Feb. 22.
Employees described the man and said he had ordered a meal priced at $33, but started to exit the building without paying. One worker confronted the man, who he said he had to go outside to get his money. The employee watched, but he did not stop at a vehicle and continued to walk away to the east.
Officers were able to locate the man, who then reportedly identified himself to police as “God.” Upon taking him to the LaPorte county jail, it was determined he was actually Eric Shepro, 49, of Dover, PA.
Shepro has been charged with theft, a Class A misdemeanor. Additionally, a no trespass warning was issued for Christo’s and Round The Clock Restaurants.
Employees told officers this was not the first “dine and dash” incident with this man. He had left without paying for a meal several weeks ago as well, but it had not been reported to police.
