Kosciusko Commissioners Approve Two Online Payment Options
“We’re moving into the 21st century,” joked Commissioner Ron Truex during the Kosciusko Commissioners Feb. 24 meeting.
The commissioners approved to requests for high tech payment options for the Kosciusko County Court Clerk and the Kosciusko County Treasurer.
County Clerk Ann Torpy requested that the clerk’s office use Doxpop to offer an online payment option for traffic tickets. The clerk’s office already uses Doxpop to provide digital copies of public court documents.
Torpy said it would make things more convenient for the county and out-of-state traffic violators. Additionally, the online payment service would save the county $27,000 a month with the online payment option. Torpy reported that she didn’t see any downside to entering into the service agreement with Doxpop.
County Treasurer Sue Ann Mitchell proposed an agreement with Invoice Cloud. The agreement would allow the county to post tax bills online.
“This would provide the taxpayer the ability to print their own bill and pay online,” Mitchell said. She reported that the county re-printed approximately 7,500 tax bills last year. With the Invoice Cloud agreement, the county could save a healthy amount of ink and paper costs.
And, though the treasurer’s office currently has an online payment option, the Invoice Cloud payment option offers a rate that’s lower than the service the county currently uses. “This is a better deal for the taxpayers,” Mitchell said.
Both of the requests were approved.
Also at the meeting, the commissioners approved a vacation request for Miami Road in Tippecanoe Township. The 36-foot-wide roadway in Bellrohr Park near Patona Bay on Lake Tippecanoe is currently unopened and doesn’t serve as an access site to anything.
There was no one present who opposed the vacation. Furthermore, vacation of the road would not affect nearby lake access and easements. The commissioners approved the request.
Additionally, the commissioners approved an update for a municipal lease document for Kosciusko County Highway Department trucks. And a resolution allowing the county auditor to use advance grants to pay claims out of cycle was also approved.
