SOUTH BEND – After sorting through 350 names, submitted by 738 Facebook followers, the South Bend Cubs have narrowed down the name of its new mascot to four. The name choices are:
Ben D. Bear
Colfax
Harry Beary
Stu
There were also many suggestions to honor Chicago Cubs legend, baseball pioneer and Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Ernie Banks who passed away on January 31, 2015. While his name may not be on the list, the South Bend Cubs do plan to honor Mr. Cub and all of his contributions to baseball this year.
The final four mascot names will be narrowed down to the top two choices via fan voting on the South Bend Cubs Facebook page. Once the top two are selected, there will be one final poll to determine the winning name. The contestant who selected the winning name will receive two tickets to Opening Day on April 9 and the first hug from the new mascot.
