FISHERS – The Warsaw boys basketball team missed just four shots in the second half Saturday night.

That type of shooting helped the Tigers pick up a 54-48 win at Hamilton Southeastern.

Warsaw hit 10-14 shots in the final half to finish a fine 18-29 from the field overall for the contest.

The Tigers led 11-7 after the opening period of play and 17-15 at halftime. Warsaw was up 32-28 after three quarters before outscoring the hosts 22-20 in the final period of play.

“Coming off a big conference win (68-57 over Elkhart Memorial at home Friday night), I was really pleased with how we competed tonight,” said Warsaw coach Doug Ogle. “Our guys were truly gritty.”

Sophomore Kyle Mangas led the way for Warsaw with a fine 17-point, seven-rebound performance. Mangas hit 7-7 from the free throw line.

Senior Rashaan Jackson continued his strong play of late with 14 big points for the Tigers. Tim Swanson canned three treys en route to 11 points. Nick Sands scored six points, Paul Marandet four and Riley Rhoades two.

“We got big production from Kyle Mangas,” noted Ogle. “Tim Swanson also came up big off the bench with 11 points for us. Paul Marandet’s defense, rebounding and leadership were strong throughout the game.”

The Tigers won without starter Jake Mangas. The senior, who averages seven points-per-game and had 15 points in Warsaw’s 68-57 home win over Elkhart Memorial Friday night, was at Indiana University Saturday for an interview with the Kelley School of Business.

Warsaw hit 4-9 shots from distance and went 14-20 from the free throw line.

Hamilton Southeastern finished the game 18-50 from the field, including a 7-24 effort from 3-point land. The hosts were just 5-8 from the line in the loss.

Zach Gunn tossed in a game-high 24 points to lead Hamilton Southeastern.

Warsaw, which has won its last three games, improves to 15-3. Hamilton Southeastern, which saw its three-game winning streak stopped, falls to 7-12.

Hamilton Southeastern won the junior varsity game 48-24. Braxton Minix led the JV Tigers with six points. The Warsaw JV team lost to Memorial in four overtimes Friday night.

Warsaw will play at conference foe Plymouth Thursday night.  The Tigers sit alone in first place in the Northern Lakes Conference standings at 5-0.

Hamilton Southeastern plays at Carmel Thursday night.
