AKRON – The Tippecanoe Valley boys basketball team shook off a slow start to keep itself in contention for a conference title Friday night.
The host Vikings erased a double-digit deficit to rally past Wabash 63-54 for a Three Rivers Conference win.
Valley, which has won two in a row and four of its last five games, improves to 10-7 overall. Coach Bill Patricks team is now 4-1 in the TRC with league games left at North Miami (Feb. 12) and at home versus Northfield (Feb. 14).
Manchester and Southwood lead the TRC standings at 5-1 each. Valley is 4-1 with Northfield at 3-2.
Wabash, which drops to 4-12, led 15-10 after the opening period and 24-18 at half-time Friday night. The Apaches stretched their lead to as many as 12 points.
The Vikings outscored Wabash 45-30 in the second half to notch the win.
Alex Thacker led the way for the Vikings with 19 points.
Neil Clampitt netted 13 points and Neil Clampitt 10 for Valley. Alec Craig and Chandler O’Conner each had seven points.
Marcus Jones scored 20 points and Taylor Vigar 13 for Wabash, which drops to 3-3 in the TRC.
Valley plays at North Miami on Thursday night and then hosts Northfield on Saturday afternoon. Wabash plays at Frontier tonight.
