Phyllis Joan ForbesPhyllis Joan Forbes, 89, Wabash, died at 5:23 a.m. Friday, Feb. 6, 2015, at Parkview Wabash Hospital.

She was born Jan. 9, 1926 in South Bend to J.D. and Bessie (Crist) Leiter.

Phyllis was a graduate of Mentone High School, and attended the Fort Wayne Art School. She married Harold Lee Forbes in Wabash on April 6, 1945; he died Oct. 8, 2002. She retired from Wabash Instrument Company in Wabash after 25 years, and was a reading tutor. Phyllis was a member of the Wabash Alliance Church. She enjoyed writing poetry, oil painting, charcoal art, and was an avid reader.

She is survived by three children: Michael J. Forbes, Leanne (Francis “Bud”) Voland and Rex (Joy) Forbes; four grandchildren: Stacey (Michael) Mavec, Richard (Kim) Voland, Emily (Joshua) Hittler and Drew Forbes; four great-grandchildren: Michael A. Mavec, Grace Mavec, Joshua Williams and Cpl Jacob (Katelyn) Williams; sister: Norma Moyer; brother: David (Jackie) Leiter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and a sister.

Friends may call 3-7 p.m. Monday, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Ave., Wabash. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10 at the funeral home with Pastor Fred Drye officiating. Burial will be in Falls Cemetery, Wabash.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wabash Alliance Church.
