Milford library events this week:

Adult Craft Night

From 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, get ready to use your creativity. Kathy Boyts, from Creative Fish Art Gallery, will help you create a unique mixed media picture frame using your own materials or items she will have available for you to choose from. Sign up at the Adult Circulation Desk by Friday, Feb. 6 to reserve a spot. Cost is $15 when you register. Call the library at (574) 658-4312 if you have any questions.

Library Closing Early

The library will be closing at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10 for a staff in-service. There will be no After School is Cool that day due to the in-service. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. There are drop boxes located at the south doors for you to drop off your items. Stop in before we close to get the items you would need that day.

Winter Storytime

Will you be my valentine? Join staff this week for a winter story time as we celebrate Valentine’s day. Come at either 10:15 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11 or at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12 for stories about valentines. Listen to staff read “Happy Valentine’s Day, Little Critter” by Mercer Mayer, “The Day it Rained Hearts” by Felicia Bond, and some poems from “Bear Hugs” by Karma Wilson and Suzanne Watts. After listening to stories we will play February bingo. Everyone will go home with a prize and will enjoy a snack afterwards. Be sure to join us Wednesday and Thursday. Register your three to six year olds to participate and see the children’s department to register or by calling the library.

Lego Crew

“To invent, you need a good imagination and a pile of stuff.” – Thomas Edison. LEGO Crew is scheduled from 10:30 a.m. until noon, Saturday, Feb. 14. On the second Saturday of each month, we get together and let our imaginations run wild. LEGO Crew meets in the library’s meeting room. Children ages five and up, accompanied by an adult, are welcome to join the fun. We will provide the LEGO’s, you provide your creativity and imagination. Spread the word and bring your friends.

New Circulation Policy

On Monday, Dec. 15, the Milford library board approved a new addition to the circulation policy. The newly adopted policy reads, “All new library patrons are limited to two DVDs and two other items or a total of 4 items on their card at one time for 30 days from their date of registration.” Outstanding fines have become an issue, with the library being owed thousands of dollars in unpaid fines and fees. This has been an ongoing problem the staff has dealt with by sending notices, making phone calls and encouraging patrons to pay fines as they are accrued.

The Board also adopted this new policy regarding outstanding fines and fees. “Fines are to be paid in the year they are accrued. Patrons are not meant to carry a fine balance forward form year to year, even it is less than $10. Patrons will be asked to pay their fines before the last work day of the calendar year. Patrons who do not pay their fines, will be blocked until the fine is paid.” If you are unable to pay your fine because it exceeds $50, we can work with you on a payment plan. If you have any questions give us a call.

Music at your Fingertips

One of the many free services offered by the library is Freegal. Freegal is a service that gives patrons access to music and music video downloads weekly. What exactly is Freegal? Do you use itunes? Freegal is very similar, but the library has paid for the song or videos that you download. There are thousands to choose from. You can browse through all the artists or look for a specific song. If you have a Milford library card and internet access, then you can use Freegal! The patrons who already receive their weekly downloads highly recommend using this service. Stop by and pick up a brochure or call us for more information. Keep downloading those three free songs every week.
