KENDALLVILLE – Wawasee’s final chance to work out some kinks against an opposing swim team came Tuesday night, and the Warriors passed the test with flying colors. Wawasee won 11 of the 12 events against host East Noble in the final regular season boys swim meet in a resounding 135-47 victory.
With just the sectionals ahead for the boys program, Tuesday’s showing should only add confidence for a young Wawasee team heading into the state tournament. Wawasee had three individuals earn two wins each and were half a second from claiming all 12 events against the Knights.
Logan Brugh, coming off a tremendous showing at the Northern Lakes Conference championships Saturday, earned wins in the individual medley (2:15.13) and 500 free (5:04.36). Ethan Knepp kept trending upward with speed wins in the 50 (25.63) and 100 (54.67) freestyles while teammate Brady Robinson posted wins in the butterfly (1:00.10) and backstroke (1:00.71).
Danny Allen claimed his first 200 freestyle win of the season at 2:07.58 and Mylon Betts posted the top diving score at 240.75.
The Warriors’ medley relay (2:02.41), 200 free relay (1:43.76) and 400 free relay (3:51.52) were all tops in the meet. The only East Noble breakthrough came in the breaststroke, where Anthony Phan bested Owen Donahoe at the finish with a 1:10.37 to Donahoe’s 1:10.87.
Wawasee, which finished fourth as a team at the NLC and 5-3 overall in dual meets, will prepare for the Concord Boys Swimming Sectional Feb. 19 and 21.
