UPDATE: The National Weather Service has changed the possible snow accumulation totals from 7 to 11 inches to 10 to 15 inches. Please use caution while traveling this evening and tomorrow.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning in effect from 7 p.m. this evening to 4 a.m. Monday for the following area counties: Kosciusko, Elkhart, Allen, Fulton, Marshall, Whitley, Wabash and Miami. The Winter Storm Watch is no longer in effect.

According to the NWS, heavy and blowing snow is expected to occur with snow beginning this evening spreading from west to east. The snow will continue Sunday, ending Sunday night from west to east. The period of heaviest snow is expected from Sunday morning into early Sunday evening. Snow accumulations of 7 to 11 inches with locally higher amounts are expected.

Periods of heavy snow with blowing and drifting snow will make travel difficult or impossible with some unplowed roads becoming impassable.

The NWS notes that a Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow is expected to make travel dangerous. Only travel in in an emergency, and if you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of emergency.
