The library dares adults 18 and older to take the Winter Reading Challenge beginning Monday, Feb. 2 through Tuesday, March 31. For two months, adult readers are challenged to read a variety of books, attend programs, and participate in other reading-related activities. Game cards and contest rules are available at the front desk. Each time you fulfill one of the challenges listed on the game card, mark it off, and go onto the next challenge.

Once you’ve completed all the challenges in a row on the game card, complete the entry form, turn it into the front desk, and get entered in a drawing to win two free tickets to a performance of your choice at Amish Acres’ Red Barn Theater in Nappanee. Get another game card and keep playing for more chances to win.

The winner will be announced at the National Library Celebration at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 16, in the North Webster Community Center Banquet Hall. The winner must be in attendance to win and claim the prize, so mark your calendar and take the challenge.

Are you facing a challenge researching your family history? Join the Glean Team and connect with other genealogy buffs on 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4. This group helps each other with their family history projects by sharing ideas, resources, and encouragement.

Valentine’s Day will be here soon. Send your sweetie a personal handmade greeting card. Learn how at the Make and Take Card Class at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 5. Hope Beezley will show you how to make your own original greeting cards in this hands-on class. The $7 class fee includes all the materials, plus you take home all the cards you make in class. To attend the class, sign up in advance at the front desk or call (574) 834-7122.

Preschool Story Time begins its 10 week winter session on Wednesday, Feb. 4 and continues every Wednesday until Wednesday, April 8. There is a choice of two time periods available at 10:30 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. Young children ages three to five, will have fun learning through stories, finger plays, games, and crafts. If you haven’t registered your child yet, you can sign up at the Youth Services Desk, call (574) 834-7122 ext. 202, or e-mail [email protected].

Older youth in sixth-grade through high school can enjoy a free after school movie at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5. We will be showing a comic science fiction sequel about a typical American teenager of the 1980s who must repeat his time machine visit to 1955 to prevent disastrous changes to 1985 without interfering with his first visit. The movie is rated PG and runs 108 minutes, complete with free popcorn.

Don’t forget that from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. every Tuesday after school, kids in kindergarten through third grade can stop in the library for crafts and stories. Come every week or once in a while. It’s free and it’s fun.
