A Facebook meeting between a 19-year-old male and who he thought was a 17-year-old female, has resulted in the male being charged with sexual misconduct with a minor, a level 5 felony. The female was 14 years of age.

Brandon M. Bergman, 19, 3311 Oak Pointe Crossing, Warsaw, was arrested Thursday, Jan. 14, on the charge.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, the mother of the 14-year-old reported the relationship on Jan. 14. The young teen admitted she and Bergman had a sexual relationship the first part of December.

The 14-year-old told police she met Bergman on Facebook. The two initially met some time in October when he came to her home, while her mother was sleeping, and stayed with her from 11 p.m. until 3 a.m. No intercourse took place at that time.

During the first part of December Bergman drove to her home, parking away from the home. The young female climbed out her bedroom window and met him. The two went to a location near her home at which time sexual intercourse took place. She stated he knew at that time she was 14 years old.

Bergman corroborated what police had been told.

His bond was set at $4,000 surety.
