SYRACUSE – Wawasee almost found a way to end it’s Northern Lakes Conference slide, but came up two points short. Elkhart Memorial made five of nine free throw attempts in the fourth quarter to withstand Wawasee’s rally, 44-42, Saturday afternoon at the Hardwood Teepee.
The Memorial duo of Alexsis Miller and Sierra Peete were huge, with Miller leading the visitors with 15 points and Peete adding 10 points. Miller notched eight of her points in the first quarter while Peete sank four charity tosses in the fourth.
Memorial were just 9-of-18 from the line in the game, but built a 28-22 lead in the first half to create some cushion.
Kylee Rostochak scored seven of her team-high 13 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Lady Warriors. Aubrey Schmeltz added nine points and Hannah Haines eight points for the home side.
Wawasee (4-12 overall, 0-4 NLC) have not won in conference since a Dec. 21, 2013 home win against Warsaw, spanning nine games. Memorial evens its record at 8-8 overall and 3-2 in the NLC.
Wawasee’s JV earned a 34-32 win in the Saturday matinee. Stats from the game were not provided.
Wawasee will host Whitko Tuesday night while Memorial will visit Northridge Friday evening.
