Nappanee Public Library news and events this week:

Lego Club

From 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, the Lego club meets at the library. Kids ages five and up are invited to take part in age group appropriate challenges and free building time. The club meets on the third Thursday of every month during the school year. This month’s building challenge is movie madness. No registration is required and parents are welcome to stay and participate. Children under eight must be accompanied by an adult and all materials will be provided.

Library Tours

Did you know you could use a sewing machine and serger or check out a portable die cut machine at the Nappanee Public Library? How about craft patterns or jigsaw puzzles? There are more than books at the Library. New cardholders and those interested in learning more about the Library are invited to a guided tour of the Nappanee Public Library at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19.

In addition to discovering where to find current bestsellers, a favorite cookbook, or the daily news, participants will be introduced to many special services. These include the Library’s makerspace, online catalog, eMedia, computers and copiers for use in the library; framed original art, CD’s, DVD’s and many other materials for loan.

The library is located at 157 N. Main St., Nappanee, and holds the tour the third Monday of every month and also by appointment.

Cover to Cover Book Club

The library book club meets from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20 to discuss “Manson” by Jeff Guinn. Childhood friends, cellmates and members of the Manson family have provided new information about Charles Manson’s life in this 2013 account of the infamous serial killer.

The book club meets at the library on the third Tuesday of each month. Reserve a copy of the book by calling (574) 773-7919 or going to www.nappaneelibrary.org.

American Girls

Girls in first and second grade will meet for their monthly American Girls club from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20 to talk about Kirsten, an American pioneer and to make an old-fashioned yarn doll. Girls in third grade through fifth grade will meet from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20 as well. The club meets once a month at the library to learn about girls in American history and to share other activities such as themed parties and community service projects.

Space is limited so be sure to register by Tuesday, Jan. 13.

Tuesday Tales

Children of all ages and their families are invited to the next installment of Tuesday Tales at the Nappanee Public Library. Special guest storytellers and Library staff share a variety of enchanting classic and modern yarns in these storytimes, held every other week. Library staff member Pat Birky will share one of her favorite children’s stories, “Tacky the Penguin” from 4 p.m. until 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20. Additional books may be read based on the audience. No registration is required.

Makers Moms

Mothers of invention are called to unite at the Nappanee Public Library makerspace from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15. Women crafters, artists, and makers of all kinds are invited to join in on the first monthly meeting of Makers Moms in the brand new Cube area at the library. Bring a current project to work on and take advantage of the equipment in the makerspace as you enjoy the camaraderie of other creative ladies. Share tips and inspiration, get feedback on projects and help ignite a new creative community. No registration is necessary.
