Trooper KocsisIndiana State Police are investigating a crash involving a trooper that happened at 11:42 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, on the Indiana Toll Road.

Trooper Andrew Kocsis, 32, was covering a single vehicle personal injury accident that had happened moments earlier at the 76 mile marker in the eastbound lanes of the toll road. He had just returned to his car after attending to the crash when it was rear-ended by a Ford Expedition. The force of the collision pushed Kocsis’ police car into the rear of the car from the original crash.

The Expedition was driven by Shane T. McAdams, 42, of Cedarburg, WI. McAdams reportedly lost control of his vehicle on an ice covered bridge he had just driven over.

Kocsis was transported to Memorial Hospital in South Bend with non life threatening injuries. The driver from the original crash he was attending to, Annette M. Ruth, 26, of Saint John, IN, was also taken to Memorial for minor injuries. McAdams and a passenger were not injured.

Toll road troopers continue to regularly answer multiple calls for service on that section of road due to blowing snow and ice making it very treacherous.
