J.C. Penney Co. Inc has announced that it plans to close approximately 40 US stores this year, including one in Indiana. The move will affect almost 2,300 workers throughout the country. Most closures will take place by April 4.

The Indiana location that will be closed is in the Marquette Mall in Michigan City. The mall has been for sale since late last year with an asking price of $11.5 million.

J.C. Penney closed more than 30 stores last year, including the Marketplace Shopping Center location in Warsaw and a store at the Five Points Mall in Marion.
