Carla Cone Freel, 57, of Columbia City, passed away at 4:15 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5, 2015, in Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.
On Nov. 29, 1957, she was born in Columbia City, to Charles and Elizabeth ‘Betty’ (Hamsher) Cone. She was raised in Pierceton but lived most of her life in Whitley County. She was a graduate of Whitko High School, Class of 1976.
Carla worked for Wellspring Interfaith Social Services, Fort Wayne and also worked part time from home for International Wood as a bookkeeper. She loved working outside and landscaping. Carla also was a big sports fan, including football and Duke University basketball, but most of all, she loved spending time with her family.
Carla is survived by her daughter: Shilo (Josh) Wearley, Simpsonville, S.C.; her son: Gavin (Vanessa) Freel, Salem; her mother: Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Cone, Columbia City; three brothers: Dana Cone, Syracuse; Kent Cone, Pierceton; and Todd Cone, Pierceton.
She was preceded in death by her father: Charles Cone; her son: Evan Freel; and her brother: Garth Cone.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 9, at Pierceton Presbyterian Church with Rev. WIll Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery, Pierceton.
