SYRACUSE – The annual Wawasee Boys Swimming Invite took place Saturday afternoon at Wawasee Middle School and it was South Bend St. Joe that took home this year’s top prize.

The Indians posted a final team score of 360 points to beat out Wawasee (257) for the invite title. Bremen (207), Rochester (205) and Columbia City (151) rounded out the top five teams of the 10 team pool.

Logan Brugh was the only Warrior to place first in an even on Saturday. Brugh won the 500 free with a time of 5:01.19, comfortably beating Rochester’s Eli Pugh (5:19.21). Brugh earlier in the day placed second (1:49.62) behind Bremen’s Will Serf (1:48.34) in the 200 free.

Brady Robinson provided the next best finishes for Wawasee. The freshman placed third in the 200 IM with a 2:04.23. Anthony Kolbus of St. Joe won the event (2:01.93). Robinson later placed fourth in the 100 breast with a time of 1:06.6. St. Joe took the top three spots in the event, including Tim Greci’s first place time of 1:02.33.

Wawasee picked up another third place finish in the 200 free relay behind the efforts of Logan Haessig, Ethan Knepp, Robinson and Brugh. The team swam a 1:38.88. St. Joe won the event with a time of 1:32.66.

The Warriors also showed well in the 400 free relay. The team of Haessig, Spencer Naugler, Robinson and Brugh finished with a time of 3:39.68. Bremen (3:19.75) won the event while Wawasee’s ‘B’ relay claimed sixth (4:07.47)

The Wawasee dive squad favored well in the invite field. Tristen Atwood claimed fourth place (160.55) while freshman Austin Dunithan (133.35) would take fifth place out of the nine man field. Beau Beeson of Bremen won the event with a score 230.15.

Wawasee did not place in the top five of any of the other events.

The Warriors will now have some down time, at least from meets, before returning to action January 6, 2015 when the team will travel to Northridge for Northern Lakes Conference dual with the Raiders.
