BLOOMINGTON – Indiana junior running back Tevin Coleman earned first team All-America honors from the Associated Press. The Tinley Park, Ill., native finished seventh in the Heisman Trophy voting Saturday, the best by a Hoosier since Antwaan Randle El’s sixth-place showing in 2001.

One of three finalists for the Doak Walker Award, Coleman became the 18th player in FBS history to reach 2,000 rushing yards in a single season. He ranks 15th on the all-time list and tops the IU charts with 2,036 yards.

A first team All-Big Ten selection, Coleman (264 attempts) became the fourth-fastest rusher to reach 2,000 behind Melvin Gordon (241), Larry Johnson (251) and Mike Rozier (258), He is second nationally in rushing yards, rushing yards per game (169.7), all-purpose yards per game (181.4) and yards from scrimmage per game (181.4), third in all-purpose yards (2,177) and yards from scrimmage (2,177), fifth in rushing yards per carry (7.54), tied for 15th in rushing touchdowns (15) and tied for 18th in total touchdowns (15) this season.

Joining Coleman on the first team were Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Marcus Mariota of Oregon, Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon and Iowa tackle Brandon Scherff and Ohio State defensive end Joey Bosa.

Second-team All-Americans included Nebraska running back Ameer Abdullah and  Minnesota tight end Maxx Williams.

Third-team All-Americans included Ohio State quarterback JT Barrett, Michigan State center Jack Allen, Nebraska defensive end Randy Gregory, Ohio State defensive tackle Michael Bennett, Penn State linebacker Mike Hull, Michigan State cornerback Trae Waynes and Michigan State safety Kurtis Drummond.
