The Indiana Department of Transportation has announced that a major piece of the new US 31 freeway was completed Wednesday, Dec. 17, in Hamilton county.
A flyover ramp from southbound US 31 to eastbound I-465 opened ahead of schedule. The flyover replaces the existing loop ramp on the southwest side of the interchange, providing a more efficient and safer flow of traffic between the two major roads.
Drivers southbound on US 31 wanting to turn east on I-465 will need to be in the right lane and exit just south of 103rd Street, traveling on two new bridges over I-465 and Meridian Street before merging onto eastbound I-465. INDOT will monitor the signal timing at the intersection of US 31 and 103rd Street, making adjustments as needed depending on traffic patterns.
The opening of the new ramp allows construction to advance on a second flyover from eastbound from eastbound I-465 to southbound Meridian Street. While portions of the project have been finished and US 31 is open to traffic, the area will continue to be an active work zone between I-465 and SR 38. INDOT anticipates all improvements to be completed by late 2015.
