SYRACUSE – It almost wasn’t worth the trip for the NorthWood girls swim team Tuesday night. The Panthers came to town to take on Northern Lakes Conference power Wawasee and saw first hand just how tough the Warriors are once again, as if they needed a reminder.

Wawasee won all eleven swimming events decisively to grab a 134-49 victory over NorthWood and move to 4-0 in NLC meets.

“Everyone was really tired tonight so we kind of just moved some girls around into different events,” began Julie Robinson, Wawasee head coach. “Several girls did different events and did well with that, including Madie McBride in the breast. But, for our girls it was just about getting them moved around and trying them in different events to see what we have.”

McBride, whom Robinson mentioned, usually swims the backstroke for the Warriors, but the sophomore did a fine job with her chance in the 100 breast. McBride finished third (1:19.32) not far behind teammate Hannah Winters (1:18.87). Sophomore Shelby Adams won the event with her time of 1:14.73.

The win in the 100 breast was Adams’ second of the night as she also led the pack in the 200 free with a final time of 2:07.15. McBride claimed second there with a 2:13.27.

It was another day at the office for Bre Robinson. The senior swam two individual events, winning them both. Robinson’s time of 58.11 was more than enough to put her first in the 100 fly. She also won the 100 back with a time of 58.86. Hannah Winters swam a lifetime best (1:14.59) in 100 fly.

Robinson also helped her team clinch two races as part of two relay teams. Robinson, Adams, Kayla Hershberger and Mikala Mawhorter combined efforts in the 200 medley relay to start the night, finishing 11 seconds ahead of NorthWood’s top relay team with a time of 2:01.36.

Robinson and Adams also participated in the 400 free relay with Anna Park and Paige Miller, winning the event with a time of 3:58.19. Wawasee’s second relay team claimed second place in the event (3:58.19). Park, Miller, Hershberger and Mawhorter helped Wawasee sweep the relays with their win in the 200 free relay (1:47.30).

Miller did her work individually as well, claiming first in both the 200 IM (2:18.12) and 500 free (5:15.80). Park came in second in both events with times of 2:30.10 (200 IM) and 5:46.36 (500 free). Lizzy Brugh swam a lifetime best in the 500 free (6:23.94).

In the 100 free, Wawasee claimed three of the top four spots. Hershberger dominated the event with her time of 59.55. Megan Stankovich claimed second (1:03.27). Meghan Fretz (1:08.40) and Jasmine Morehead (1.11.11) respectively claimed third and fourth for Wawasee.

Morehead took fourth in the 50 free as well with a time of 31.70. Fretz claimed second (30.07) while Mawhorter won the event comfortably (26.64).

NorthWood salvaged an event win with the diving portion of the night. Betsy Nunemaker provided the win with a score of (186.70), edging out Wawasee’s Hannah Rhoades (184.90). Rachel Starett (118.50) claimed fourth for Wawasee.

The Warriors (6-0, 4-0) will host Plymouth for senior night this Thursday at Wawasee Middle School. The ceremony is slated to begin at 6:15 p.m.
