SYRACUSE – The Wawasee girls swim team welcomed in nine other schools for the annual Wawasee Invitational Saturday morning and the Warriors were certainly not generous hosts.

Wawasee, undefeated so far this season, once again put on display why it is one of the areas premier programs. The ladies finished with a total team score of 432.50, Bishop Dwenger was the next closest team in second place with a score of 242 points. Tippecanoe Valley finished in eighth place with 62 points.

The home team dominated basically every event. Wawasee took first in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:56.66. East Noble came in second in the event, nearly six second behind the Warriors at 2:02.64. Shelby Adams won the 200 free for Wawasee with a 2:04.25 stamp. Madison McBride (2:12.10) took third for the Warriors. Paige Miller continued the first place dominance for Wawasee in the 200 IM. Miller swam a 2:14.62, well ahead of Kari Guthrie’s (East Noble) 2:24.61.

Dwenger broke the Warrior winning streak as Erica Evans won the 50 free with a time of 25.66. Mackenzie Dafforn-Koebler (26.19) of East Noble claimed second place. Kendra Miller, Mikala Mawhorter and Meghan Fretz claimed third, fifth and sixth for Wawasee, respectively. Lea Stouder of Valley claimed eighth place with a time of 28.45.

Purdue commit Bre Robinson was in a class of her own in the 100 fly with her time of 59.45. Mawhorter claimed second place with 1:07.94. Kate Gunter gave Valley its best finish of the day in the event with her time of 1:09.82.

Kayla Hershberger of Wawasee and Dafforn-Koebler tied for first in the 100 free with duplicate times of 56.98. Wawasee dominated the 500 free with Paige Miller taking first (5:14.90), Anna Park claiming third (5:46.74) and Hannah Winters earning fourth (6:10.33). Wawasee’s relay teams took first and third in the 200 free relay with times of 1:43.66 and 1:50.83, respectively.

Robinson and Hershberger went one-two in the 100 back. Robinson swam 58.09, Hershberger a 1:05.71. McBride (1:07.06) claimed fourth for the Warriors. Guthrie won the 100 breast (1:12.81) while Adams and Winters took second and third. Wawasee’s relay teams again went first and third in the 400 relay.

In the diving portion Hannah Rhoades finished third for Wawasee with a score of 175.25. Valley was well represented by Mia McHaffey, who finished fourth (174.45) and Caitlyn Bailey, who came in eighth (153.90) in the field of 15 divers.
