Milford Fire responded to a fire at 824 E. CR 1250N, at approximately 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The home is owned by Timothy Yoder. At the time of the fire, Jessica Harner and her son were in the home along with a dog and cat. According to  Milford Town Marshal Rich Miotto, Harner was asleep on the couch when she was woken by her son who smelled the smoke.

They were able to escape from the house with the dog. At this time, the whereabouts of the cat is unknown.

First responders were able to put out the flames, but heavy smoke can be seen from all areas of the two story residence.

Assisting in the mutual aid call were Turkey Creek Fire Territory, Plain Township, New Paris and North Webster.

Because of live utilities in the area, NIPSCO was called in to assist.

Wawasee school buses were directed to avoid the area on their afternoon bus routes.

Authorities are currently responding to a reported house fire at 824 East 1250 North in Milford.
