HUNTiNGTON – The Warsaw boys basketball team proved its mettle Saturday night.

The Tigers, coming off a tough one-point loss Friday night at No. 3 Homestead, got back to their winning ways.

Coach Doug Ogle’s team used a strong second quarter effort to top host Huntington North by a 62-49 count.

Warsaw, which beat North 50-46 last season, trailed 15-11 after the opening period before outscoring the Vikings 18-9 in the key second stanza to take a 29-24 halftime lead. The Tigers closed the contest by outscoring North 16-9 in the fourth quarter.

The Tigers, who improve to 3-1, were on fire from the field in the win. Warsaw shot a sizzling 24-39 from the field in the game, including 12-18 in the second half. The Tigers also had a big 25-16 rebounding edge and committed just 11 turnovers.

The duo of junior Paul Marandet and senior Jake Mangas paced the offense with 14 points each for the Tigers. Marandet also hauled down seven rebounds.

Senior Rashaan Jackson netted 10 points and led the Tigers with eight rebounds. Senior Nick Sands, who had a huge game Friday night, had nine points and junior Riley Rhoades added six for Warsaw.

Caleb Landrum scored 17 points and Konner Platt nine to lead Huntington North.

The Vikings, who fall to 2-2, were 17-37 from the field (including 8-21 on 3-point tries). North was 7-10 from the line and had 16 turnovers in the contest.

Huntington North won the junior varsity game by a 53-45 final. Jeremy David led Warsaw with 12 points. Rane Kilburn scored nine and Bishop Harrison seven for the JV Tigers.

Warsaw will host Manchester Thursday night. Huntington North hosts New Haven on wEdnesday evening.
