Scott Trojan had a huge interest in bugs when he was in junior high. He created a collection of insects, moths and butterflies from Indiana and around the world. Trojan made the glass cases for his collection when he took shop class in high school. The amazing collection has been on display for the last 20 years at the Syracuse Library, but due to remodeling is being returned. Trojan is hoping to find a new home for the collection so the specimens will have good climate control and can continue to be enjoyed by many.

Syracuse Public Library events for the week of Dec. 8- Dec. 13.

Book Clubs and Knitting Club

The Children’s Book Club meets for a fun December party from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9. A turkey has been glimpsed on the loose in the Syracuse Public Library. Decoding a puzzle will help find the feathery rascal. Children that received a gift book last month are reminded to bring it for story sharing.

Adults meet to discuss A Nantucket Christmas, at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10. Anyone wishing to attend is encouraged to join the group and bring a half-dozen cookies to share.

The knitting or crocheting group is meeting from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11. The group meets in the children’s department so that young people can learn to knit or crochet and make presents for the holidays. The Syracuse Library is happy to provide information about questions, activities and hours at (574) 457-3022.

Free VHS Movies

The children’s department is removing Reading Rainbow and other VHS tapes to accommodate a new furniture arrangement. The tapes appear to be in working order but due to their age are not guaranteed, and so, are being given away. Follow the Syracuse Public Library on Facebook for renovation updates.
