Investigators Seeking Additional Witnesses

Investigators from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department are continuing to investigate a fatal crash involving two semi-trucks that occurred in the westbound lanes of the U.S. 20 Bypass east of US HWY 33.

The crash, which occurred on Monday, Nov. 24, at approximately 3:19 p.m. resulted in fatal injuries to 46-year-old Kyle Pendill of Elkhart.

At the time of the collision, Pendill’s truck, which was hauling a trash dumpster, was stopped and parked along the north shoulder of U.S. 20. A semi-truck, which was operated by 71-year-old Gerald Keesler of Dowagiac, Mich., was headed westbound on U.S. 20 when it struck Pendill’s vehicle. Kessler’s semi was transporting hogs in a silver colored trailer.

Investigators are continuing to investigate and review data collected from the scene and are seeking additional information on witnesses who may have seen this crash and/or the events leading up to it.
