With heavy winds sweeping across northern Indiana, power outages are widespread throughout the area.

“We’ve been knocking outages out all day,” says NIPSCO spokesperson Larry Graham. “Until the wind calms down, we’ll be working scattered outages.”

As of 1:30 p.m. today, NIPSCO reported more than 2,500 customers without power. In Kosciusko County, Leesburg and Syracuse seem to have been hit the hardest.

In Syracuse, there are more than 600 customers without power. Leesburg is showing 170 outages, according to NIPSCO.

In Warsaw, reported outages are down to just 7. Outages are also reported in Milford and North Webster, as well as areas outside of Kosciusko County, such as Plymouth, Goshen, Shipshewana and Whitley County. More than 1,000 outages are reported in Nappanee. Kosciusko REMC is showing no outages at time of posting.

Graham states that outages are being address, and many have already been rectified, but until the weather subsides, scattered outages could be expected. NIPSCO is working to address all the issues.
