Syracuse Public Library programs this week:

Everyone gets busier as the holidays begin. Publishers know this and bring out seasonal stories that are shorter than the usual stories. The Syracuse Public Library has a display with Christmas books at the front desk for easy selecting. Those of us that like to read can find help through the holidays with less involved reads.

Adult Book Club

The adult book club, “One Book, One Hour,” is reading one of these shorter books, “A Nantucket Christmas,” by Nancy Thayer. The December book discussion meets Dec. 10 so use Evergreen or call the library to request a copy. The holidays can become scenes of family dramatics, and Thayer shows a successful negotiation for a new stepmother in scenic Massachusetts. Call the library with any questions at 574-457-3022.

Activities for the Week

The eight weeks of story times are coming to an end. The final meetings are at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 24, and Tuesday, Nov. 25.

Knit or crochet a present each Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the children’s department.

Yarn and the tools are provided along with plenty of assistance. Additionally, sign-up continues for the Tuesday, Dec. 2 candle craft. The craft is free to those that pre-sign and $2 for those who show up on the day of the craft.

Holiday Hours

The library is closed for Thanksgiving but is open at 10 a.m. Friday and Saturday for regular hours.

Food For Fines

The library is collecting food to give to the Syracuse Food Pantry now through the week before Christmas. A list of food and household items is available that Traci Helton, the director of the food pantry, has approved. She removed flour, sugar, oil and laundry detergent from the list, but the library will give credit in line with the cost of items or for the value of a receipt.

The Syracuse Public Library is eager to help both the community and patrons that might be in arrears.
