BalmerRobert Shreiner Balmer, 89, Warsaw, passed away at 4:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 10, 2014, at Miller’s Merry Manor of Warsaw.

He was born on Feb. 3, 1925, in Lancaster County, Pa., to James Lester Balmer and Ella May (Shreiner) Balmer. On July 1, 1951, in Lititz, Pa., he was married to Jean Loraine (Slagel) Balmer, who survives in Warsaw. Robert served in the U.S. Army during World War II until his honorable discharge.

He was a resident of Kosciusko County, for the past 23 years where he was a member of Community Grace Brethren Church in Warsaw. He worked as a machinist at Rabestos Manhattan in Manheim, Pa. During his retirement he raised Arabian horses, and he was also a member of the Akron Senior Citizens Club.

He is survived by a daughter: Patti Boren, Winona Lake; daughter-in-law: Deb Balmer, Syracuse; six grandchildren: Joshua (Jennie) Boren, Winona Lake; Matthew (Monica) Boren, Leesburg; Benjamin (Katy) Boren, Winona Lake; Johanna Boren, Winona Lake; Shelley (David) Brigham, Copperas Cove, Texas; Jon (Ashley) Balmer, Syracuse; 11 great-grandchildren: Whitney, Noah, Riley, Silas, Abner, Adeline, Gracie, John, Jack, Randi and Kolden; his brother: Ray Balmer, York, Pa.; and sister: Reba Kreider, Lititz, Pa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son: Randy Balmer; and his son-in-law: John Boren.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 14, at Community Grace Brethren Church, 909 S. Buffalo St., Warsaw, and will be officiated by Pastor Roy Chapin. Burial will follow with a graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw.
