Food pantries in the towns of Milford, North Webster and Syracuse rely heavily on community donations to ensure adequate supplies are available to serve those in need. And the need increases during the approaching holiday season.
Approximately 50 percent of students attending Wawasee Community School Corp. schools are receiving lunches free or at a reduced price. This means the household income for these families is at or below the state level of poverty.
To help meet the needs, the Wawasee High School Key Club is again holding its annual non-perishable food drive known as Stuff The Bus during the week of Nov. 10-15. The goal is to literally stuff a school bus full of donated food that will then be distributed to the food pantries in Milford, North Webster and Syracuse Nov. 18.
During the week of Nov. 10, the bus will be parked at the high school for students and staff to make donations. Key Club members will also be at the following locations during the week: 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, Dollar General, Milford; 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, at NewMarket, North Webster; and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, at NewMarket, Syracuse.
