Triton Sports LogoUNION MILLS – The Triton football team earned the right to play another home game.

The Trojans topped host South Central by a 34-20 final Friday night in a Class 1-A Sectional 41 playoff opener.

Coach John Johns’ squad, now 3-7 on the season, will play host to Northern State Conference foe LaVille next Friday night in Bourbon in a sectional semifinal game.

Jeremy Jones was a beast for the Trojans, scoring three times on the ground. All of Jones’ touchdowns came in the second half via runs of 17, 64 and 50 yards.

Triton took a 12-7 lead into the lockerroom by way of two fumble recoveries for scores. The first came from Joey Corder, who sprinted 38 yards for Triton’s first touchdown. Gage Waddle flew 60 yards on the second recovery, putting Triton up to stay just before the half.

Corder added a two-point conversion to put the Trojans up 34-20, where the score would hold for the final.

The victory against South Central is the first sectional win for the Trojans since the 2010 season.

LaVille blanked Lake Station 41-0 Friday night in their sectional opener in Lakeville. The Lancers improve to 7-3 on the season.

Triton dropped a 31-0 final at LaVille in a conference game on Oct. 3.

The winner of the LaVille at Triton game will advance to the sectional championship game on Nov. 7 to play either Winamac or Whiting.
