Girl Scouts of Northern Indiana – Michiana will host an Internet and Social Media Safety Forum from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 13, at the Fort Wayne Leadership & Learning Center, located at 10008 Dupont Circle Drive East.

This informative forum and panel discussion is designed to help parents, legal guardians, educators, and caretakers, keep kids protected from internet predators and inform them of social media safety.

The panel of experts will include Jennifer Rohlf, Community Education Coordinator, YWCA; Linda Hathaway, Director of Education, McMillen Center for Health Education; Detective John Helmsing, Digital Forensics Department, Fort Wayne Police Department; to name a few.

They will cover the following topics:

• How and what mobile apps can be perilous to children and young adults;
• How social media can be used to acquire your child’s information;
• What steps you can take as a parent to ensure your child’s safety; and
• How digital artifacts and info can endanger your child

“We are so thrilled to partner with these groups in our community and host this presentation on such an important and very present topic. As an organization that is concerned about the safety, health, and quality of life for girls, we are proud to champion this initiative alongside this stellar group of professionals,” says CEO, Sharon Pohly.

This is a free event made possible in partnership with the YWCA of Northeast Indiana, Fort Wayne Police Department, and the McMillen Center for Health Education.

Parents, caretakers, legal guardians, and boys and girls grades 4-12, are encouraged to attend. Light hors d’oeuvres will be served.

Space is limited. RSVP by emailing [email protected] or by calling (800) 283-4812.
