Warsaw Sports LogoThe Warsaw girls soccer team closed out its regular season Thursday night.

Host Northridge edged the Tigers 2-1 in the Northern Lakes Conference finale in Middlebury.

The Raiders improve to 10-5-1 overall and finish in second place in the NLC at 6-1. Warsaw drops to 11-2 overall and places third in the league standings at 5-2. Goshen went 7-0 to win the NLC championship.

Warsaw saw its nine-game winning steak come to a close. The Tigers’ only other loss of the season was a 2-0 final to Goshen back on Sept. 2.

Ellie Lengacher scored both goals for the winning Raiders Thursday night. She gave Northridge a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute, assisted by Brey Baltazar.

Liz VanWormer tied the match for the Tigers in the 40th minute. Alyssa Atkins collected the assist.

Lengacher booted home the game winner in the 61st minute. Brennah Tadeo assisted on the score.

Northridge had a 8-7 advantage in shots in the contest.

Warsaw keeper Gabby Herman had six saves. Meghan Cawood had six saves for the Raiders.

The Warsaw junior varsity team posted a 3-0 win. Jessica Keyes and Katianna Rodriguez each had a goal for the team, which finishes with a record of 9-2-1 overall and 5-2 in the NLC.

Coach Peter Lucht’s varsity team opens sectional play at home on Tuesday at 5 p.m. versus NorthWood.

Frosh Football Rolls To Win

The Warsaw freshman football team blanked Northern Lakes Conference foe Goshen 41-0 Thursday night.

Luke Delp tossed two touchdown passes and ran for another for the Tigers.

Trevor York and Zach Riley each had a touchdown catch for the winners. Will McGarvey and Leytan Perry also scored touchdowns.

Perry also led the defense with six tackles and two sacks. Michael Gordon and Daniel Deanties each had five tackles.

Warsaw is now 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the NLC. The Tigers play at Wawasee next Thursday.
