WINONA LAKE – Midfielder Carianne Sobey has etched her name in the Grace College women’s soccer record books as the all-time leader in assists.

Sobey has 30 assists in less than three full seasons, passing Ellen Kegarise (1998-2001) with the most assists in program history.

The record-breaking moment came on Saturday in memorable fashion. With the score tied 1-1 in the final seconds of double overtime against Baker, Sobey dribbled past a defender and passed to Meghan Wiles. Wiles then ripped off a 20-yard laser from the top of the penalty box that slipped under the crossbar for the winning strike in a 2-1 victory.

Sobey burst onto the national scene as a freshman with a program-record 17 assists. She had 10 assists last fall to earn Crossroads League Midfielder of the Year status, and she has three assists in seven matches so far in 2014.

The Lady Lancers’ next match is at Miller Field on Saturday 7 p.m. against Westminster (Utah).
