WGU Indiana has announced its largest enrollment in the university’s history. The August 2014 enrollment of 3,718 students is up more than 15 percent over the 3,213 enrolled in 2013. Comparatively, in August 2010, 359 students were enrolled. This is the fourth consecutive year of growth for the online university since its launch in May 2010.

The Bachelor of Science business management program has the highest enrollment with 621 students. Over the last year, the Bachelor of Science in nursing program enjoyed the largest growth with a more than 76 percent increase. In addition to another record year of high enrollment, WGU Indiana has reported a 12-month retention rate of approximately 75 percent.

“We are excited to see the continued growth of WGU Indiana,” said Allison Barber, chancellor of WGU Indiana. “High enrollment trends are a reflection of our mission to provide quality and affordable higher education that meets the needs of working adults in Indiana.”

The online university offers more than 50 bachelor’s and master’s programs in business, education, information technology and healthcare professions.

Western Governor’s University’s innovative, competency-based education model, which earned the university a spot in Fast Company’s 50 Most Innovative Companies of 2013, measures learning rather than time spent in a classroom. Students earn their degrees by demonstrating mastery of subject matter, completing coursework online.
