WARSAW – The Warsaw girls soccer team dropped a tough 2-0 final to visiting Goshen Tuesday night.

The Redskins tallied both goals in the opening half to win the key Northern Lakes Conference match.

Jelitza Palomino scored the first goal for Goshen. The Redskins then got a huge lift just before halftime when Jhoana Gomez Rios headed in a score off a corner kick with only three seconds left for the two-goal lead.

“In the game of soccer, sometimes you do not win the games that you feel you earned a victory in,” said Warsaw coach Peter Lucht. “We had the edge in possession and shots, but we were unable to get the W.

“I am proud of how each and every one of our girls battled through the adversity. I believe in each one of them and that we will battle through this adversity and come out stronger on the other side.”

Warsaw drops to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the NLC. Goshen improves to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in league play.

The Warsaw junior varsity squad blanked Goshen 4-0. Jessica Keyes and Kennedy Patton each had a goal and an assist for the JV Tigers, who improve to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in league play. Katiana Rodriguez and Mariah Rivera each also had a goal for the winners.

Warsaw will play host to Argos on Saturday. The JV match will begin at noon with the varsity tilt to follow.
