Sam and Fran Leman of Syracuse announce the engagement of their daughter, Cassie Leman of Indianapolis, to Chris Bates of Indianapolis. He is the son of Charles and Barbara Bates of Indianapolis.

The bride-elect graduated from Purdue University with a bachelor of education degree and is employed at Carmel Clay Schools.

The bridegroom-elect is also a graduate of Purdue University where he earned a bachelor of science degree in biochemistry and a Ph.D in neurotoxicology. He is employed at The Exponent.

An Oct. 4 wedding is planned at the Indiana State Museum in Indianapolis.
