LEO – The NorthWood girls golf team continued its busy opening week of the season Thursday by placing fourth in the Leo Invitational.

Coach Adam Yoder’s No. 23 ranked Panthers shot 369 over the par 72 layout at the Cedar Creek Golf Course.

The highlight of the day for the Panthers, who won the Plymouth Invitational on Wednesday, came from Linnzie Richner. The NorthWood junior recorded her first career eagle on the par 5 No. 18 hole. Richner led the Panthers with a round of 81, to tie for fourth place among individuals.

Sophomore Summer Stillson also had a strong effort for NorthWood as she shot 84.

“We’re battling attrition right now (fourth straight day of playing in an invitational), but I was especially pleased with our play at #1 and #2 today,” said NorthWood coach Adam Yoder.  “Linnzie and Summer both found a great rhythm today, and that will only help moving forward as we play three more invites in the next five days.”

Senior Rachel Beebe carded a round of 100, while freshman Madison Richner shot 104 and junior Baillie Richner 107 for the Panthers.

The Leo A team won the invite title with a team score of 334. Fort Wayne Carroll was second at 349, followed by Penn (360), NorthWood (369), Bellmont (371), Fort Wayne Canterbury (389), Leo B (416), Fremont (423) and Fort Wayne Luers (457).

Jaycee Bunner of Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian was individual medalist with a one-over round of 73.

NorthWood plays in the East Noble Invitational Saturday at Noble Hawk. The Panthers are the defending champions in the event.
