Authorities in Marshall, Mich., have now identified an Indiana man who was killed in a skydiving accident over the weekend.

In a news release, Marshall Police said an investigation is continuing to determine what happened that caused the death of George Speakman, 76, of Angola.

According to authorities, Speakman, an experienced skydiver, was with other skydivers at Brooks Field in Marshall, Mich., Sunday when the accident happened. The other skydivers did not exit the plane after they realized something went wrong with Speakman’s jump.

Deputy Chief Scott McDonald told the Battle Creek Enquirer that Speakman was found on the ground, just south of the airport, which is located approximately 15 miles southeast of Battle Creek.

An investigation into the accident involves police, the Calhoun County medical examiner’s office and the Federal Aviation Administration.
